In case you’ve been hiding under a rock, I’ll break the news: Hillary wrote a book about the 2016 campaign. Shocking, I know.

Even more shocking than that, people have thoughts about that – and they’re letting the interwebs know that they didn’t grant her permission to write this book. Man, they are pissed. You see, it’s obvious that what Hillary should be doing is hiding under a rock. Isn’t she supposed to sit down and shut up now? She lost the election. Go on, shoo.

But here’s the thing: it’s never been Hillary’s style to sit down and shut up. Her loss made a lot of women fucking tired of sitting down and shutting up. You see, that’s how we got here. We currently have a president who won the election against her despite*:

*this list is not all-inclusive due to, well, how damn many things could be listed here.

Basically, we are so over letting shit slide because the ‘little’ things turn into big things (like the election) that have real world consequences. In case you still need justification for Hillary’s audacity to write a book, here are 5 more reasons:

[et_bloom_inline optin_id=”optin_1″]

1) It’s not about you; it’s about her.

Her book is her story. It’s about her experience. She is the only one who owns her experience, so she gets to decide to tell it. Not you.

2) You may have missed the sexism, even though it was right in front of your face.

If this is the case, it may be beneficial for you to read the book to maybe get a better understanding of her experience as a woman.

3) Your bias is your problem. Not hers.

Hillary Clinton is a grown ass woman who does not need your permission to do as she pleases. Don’t want to read the book? Suit yourself. No one’s going to force you. Having a visceral reaction to the fact that she dared to write it? Own your bias.

4) No one needs permission to write a book.

Bernie wrote, released and went on a book tour in the middle of the campaign. Romney, Obama, Bill, Biden, Bush (both),  Cory Booker, Deval Patrick, Rubio, Gore, Cruz, Huckabee, JFK, Nixon, and so many more male politicians have written books – and though people always share their thoughts, I can’t find reference to any of them ever being told not to write a book.

5) Hillary is fierce.

To be honest, if I were in her shoes… I’d have spent a lot more time in the woods. Or a barrel of wine. Or anywhere outside of the spotlight. Not because I’d be sitting down and shutting up (I don’t do that well) but because I was devastated enough by her loss myself. I cannot imagine her devastation. But Hillary is strong as hell and a badass powerhouse of a woman, so here she is – back on her feet to tell her story and owning it. We should all be that strong.
